CDP Spring Workshop last week was an incredible success. The CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. Over the past 15 years, they have created a system that has resulted in unparalleled engagement on environmental issues worldwide.
Approximately 200 attendees representing companies, investors, and government stakeholders were present as the day kicked off with an insightful keynote address from Geisha Williams, CEO & President of PG&E, as well as an address from the Special Advisor to CA Governor Jerry Brown, Aimee Barnes, regarding the upcoming global climate action summit. Throughout the day, we heard from a variety of experts on the topics of target setting, natural capital, renewable energy goals, investor use of CDP data, the future of reporting to CDP, and more. The day capped with a captivating session on climate leadership moderated by Greg Dalton at Climate One and a networking reception overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

The CDP spring workshop provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce the value of reporting and understand how organizations can use their data to improve operational efficiency. Through more accurate recording and reporting of business metrics, CDP participating organizations achieve a 67% higher return on equity than non-participating organizations. They also learn how to prepare for the unexpected using scenario planning techniques.
